1997
A bi-coastal romance begins between company founders Angela Desveaux (in Toronto) and Bruce Patterson (in Vancouver).
In April, Angela would graduate from the Graphic Design program at Sheridan College to begin her career at CBC Television
as a designer for the hit series Royal Canadian AirFarce. Bruce graduates from Simon Fraser University with a Psychology Degree.
1998
The two love-birds make several cross-country trips to see each other before they decide to travel across Europe together in a summer backpacking extravaganza. After two months of adventure and romance, Angela heads back to Toronto whilst Bruce returns to Vancouver. Sadness ensues. Deciding they cannot live without each other, Angela moves to Vancouver to be with Bruce. Bruce is now enrolled at UBC to become a teacher and Angela accepts a graphic design position with Telus. Happiness is found.
1999-2001
Angela is now a self-employed graphic designer working for corporate clientele. Bruce is now a bonafide teacher with a side-interest in technology, cameras and Apple products. One by one, their friends become engaged and creative skills are called upon... weddings have entered the picture!
Bruce begins filming weddings and Angela begins creating wedding stationery for her best girlfriends. A business idea is born.
2002
Engaged! Pure bliss ensues. DDVC (Angela’s design company) is renamed Cloud Nine Creative.
Stationery sales begin to skyrocket and Bruce enjoys a steady side-job filming weddings nearly every weekend!
2003
Angela + Bruce get married! More bliss ensues. The newlyweds honeymoon in St. Lucia and Barbados.
A + B begin a journey as life partners (and official business partners) as they incorporate the company, together.
Business is booming for design, stationery and wedding videography contracts.
Bruce films over 35 weddings this year while continuing to teach. Busy busy!
Cloud Nine Stationery makes its debut at the National Stationery Show in NYC and the line is now retailed across North America.
2004
Bruce finds his creative niche with wedding cinematography. He wins his first International Award of Excellence.
Bruce decides to leave teaching.
He becomes the full-time Director of Multimedia & Principal Cinematographer at Cloud Nine Creative Inc.
2005
Angela partners with a new photography contact to become co-founder and designer of Love Sweet Love.
This mini-mag for the Vancouver wedding industry is an instant hit! A surprise hit, really. Such a surprise that all of a sudden there is a new business (and a new partner) becoming a big part of daily life at Cloud Nine. The project feels like it’s moving ahead
at light-speed and previous commitments are getting lost in the shuffle. Angela chooses to step aside.
The mini-mag continues with a new name and a new designer.
Regrets ensue. Feelings are hurt. Life + business lessons are learned.
2006
Hundreds of beautiful wedding films and 1000’s of stationery orders later, Cloud NIne Creative decides to revisit the publishing business. An idea is formed to create an oversized luxury magazine that will celebrate excellence in the Canadian wedding industry and will combine the couple’s design, video and wedding expertise. On a cruise in the middle of the ocean, Angela and Bruce register the name WedLuxe. The buzz begins, the hardwork gets started and announcements are made.
In November of 2006, WedLuxe Magazine launches to rave reviews. The WedLuxe Western Canada Edition is sold across BC & AB and is the first wedding magazine in North America to combine HD video with printed content.
Angela is the Editor-in-Chief and Principal Designer and Bruce is the Director of Multimedia.
A magical launch party is hosted by the couple (and is bigger than their wedding).
2007
Bruce is named “One of the Top 25 Videographers in the World” by EventDV Magazine.
WedLuxe becomes a national magazine.
WedLuxe Toronto & Eastern Canada is unveiled on newsstands across Ontario, Quebec and Saskatchewan in December.
The company welcomes Carolyn Clark as National Sales Manager and Suseh Nievares as Office Manager.
Along with world-famous designer Preston Bailey, Angela is asked to be a judge for the Canadian Wedding Industry Awards.
2008
Cloud Nine Creative becomes a founding member of the Re:Frame Collective.
Bruce finds his way back to teaching, as the primary objective of the collective is to share knowledge and training with other videographers from across the world. The first seminar will take place in New Orleans.
The company welcomes Camilla Martinez, Assistant Editor
